Kids

The Douglas County Public Library hosts a Dungeons and Dragons club exclusively for kids, ages 9-14 on the 3rd Thursday of every month from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m. We will be playing 5e DnD, and beginners are always welcome. All supplies are provided.

Tweens ages 8 to 13 are invited to the Minden Library to play the Pokémon trading card game, do crafts, and talk about all things Pokémon! The club will meet from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of every month. 

Reading with animals can help children feel calm, gain confidence, and become strong readers. Children of all ages are invited to the Minden Library to read to therapy dogs for 15 minutes. 
READing Paws therapy dogs are available at the Minden Library every Tuesday afternoon between 3:30 and 5:00 p.m.

Registration is required for participation. 
In consideration of the therapy dogs, children reading, and library patrons, we ask everyone to adhere to the library policies, including those relating to unattended children, noise levels, and disruptive behavior that affects all patrons in the library. 
Parental permission is required, and forms are available at the library.

Science Club meets on the first Thursday of the month from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the Minden Library and is intended for children in 3rd - 5th grade, but younger children may attend. Children will participate in hands-on learning and experimentation with lessons focusing on practical lab experiments. All supplies are provided.
This program is free, and no registration is required. 

Storytime

Storytime programs are seasonal, but typically occur every Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
Our current Storytime incorporates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) with themed read-aloud books and activities intended for children ages 3 – 6 years old.
This special Storytime will use Preschool STEAM activities to create a fun and hands-on way to challenge children’s thinking and problem-solving skills. These activities help promote essential 21st-century skills, which are important in preparing children for an unknown future.
Through the process of experimenting and exploring, children are using creative and critical thinking skills. The activity’s final product is not as important as the process.

The Douglas County Public Library in Minden will be welcoming a new Tween Gaming Club beginning February 13th, 2025. The Tween Gaming Club will meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. for tweens 8 to 13 years old. 
Come unwind with us at our Tween Gaming Club! Talk about your favorite games and play the game of the month with friends and make new friends as we learn a little bit about gaming. Bring your own handheld console, laptop, or try out our selection of board games and card games.
Only games rated E and E 10+ by the ESRB will be played due to the age range of the program. If you would like to play games with a higher rating and are 13 or older, join us for our Game On program for teens which meets on the 2nd and 4th Friday of every month from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
