Reverse 9-1-1
is a public safety communications technology used by public safety organizations in Canada and the United States to communicate with groups of people in a defined geographic area. The system uses a database of telephone numbers and associated addresses, which, when tied into geographic information systems (GIS), can be used to deliver recorded emergency notifications to a selected set of telephone service subscribers.

In addition, Douglas County also has access to Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system delivers critical warnings and information to the public on their wireless devices.  You do not need to sign up for this, once released by dispatch this will come to your cell phone with out subscribing. Make sure your government alerts are not disabled in your settings on your cell phone.

Authorized public safety officials send the alerts through FEMA's Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) to wireless providers, which then push the alerts from cell towers to mobile devices in the affected area.  The alerts appear like text messages on mobile devices.

FEMA, the FCC, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Weather Service work collaboratively to maintain Wireless Emergency Alerts and the Emergency Alert System, which are the two main components of the national public warning system.
