Borrowing from Other Libraries

The library may be able to borrow books for you that we do not own. Libraries all over the United States participate in the program. You must have a current library card to borrow books through Interlibrary Loan. Books may take up to 5 weeks to arrive.

The lending library will determine how long you may keep their book. The average loan time is 10 to 14 days. Interlibrary loan materials cannot be renewed.

New Releases

Newly-released books are not available through Interlibrary Loan. The library can only borrow books that were published at least 1 year ago. If you request a newly-released book, the library may consider it for purchase.

Fees

Most materials can be borrowed for free. Some universities and many genealogy libraries charge fees. You must pay any fees charged by the lending library. We will notify you in advance if there is a fee, so you can decide whether you want to pay and borrow the book.

Due to United States Copyright laws, you may borrow a specific title only once in a calendar year. You can order as many different books as you like.

Be cautious about ordering too many items at one time, as they may all arrive at the same time. If you want to read books from a series in order, request only one at a time, and when one arrives, request the next book.

Book Request

There are 2 ways to request books that we do not own:
  1. Use our online catalog to search other libraries for the book you want. Click on the "search other catalogs" option to expand your search. When you find it, click on “request item,” and enter your library card number and password.
  2. If you cannot find the book using our online catalog, please fill out the "Contact Us" form to request the item you are looking for.
