Fun Ways to Unplug for a Day in Douglas CountyPrioritizing offline connections and experiencing “unplugged” moments in our lives is important. In a time of “screen fatigue”, digital interactions are convenient, but can also eclipse in-person connections. Don’t feel disconnected from your community! Douglas County Community Services offers a variety of outdoor and indoor activities to help you relax, recharge, be active, and most importantly unplug.

Douglas County Community Services Mission Statement “to continue to create and preserve quality parks and recreation opportunities, serving people of all ages and interests, that positively affect the community and enrich life”

1. Activities at the Community Center
Dance your heart out in one of the many aerobic fitness programs offered, go up to bat for the adult softball league, or hit your hardest serve as a member of youth volleyball. The Recreation Division oversees organized youth and adult sports, the indoor fitness center and games, and a FULL schedule of classes. Interested in learning more? 2. Play at the Parks
We oversee a handful of parks as well as the Carson Valley Skate Facility. Named one of the highest rated skateparks on the West Coast, this outdoor facility offers 30,000 sq. ft. of rails, ramps, drop-ins, and a bowl. Wheels not your thing? Try your hand at our ‘Best in the State” Zephyr Cove Disc Golf course. For a complete list of County parks spanning Topaz to Tahoe, click here.

3. Hit the Water
Topaz Lake Recreation Area is located on Topaz Lake just off U.S. Highway 395 near the Nevada-California border. Equip with RV hookups, campsites, and boat ramps, stay awhile to shore cast or troll for a Topaz “Trophy Trout” or take a seat at the day picnic area on a bluebird day. 4. Courts of All Kinds
So, your vertical isn’t what it used to be? But you still enjoy the game? Between the parks, Douglas County and Kahle Community Centers we have tennis ball, handball, pickleball, and basketball courts for you to informally sharpen up your skills.

5. Take to the Trails
Walk a network of linear and loop trails open to hikers, bikers, and our equestrian friends. Parks & Recreation took an active roll in trail planning and being involved in the development of the Genoa Trail and Nevada Stateline-to-Stateline Trail, as well as creating additional connections from population bases to recreational facilities.
