Planned Protest at the JLEC
Douglas County is actively preparing for a planned protest at the Judicial Law Enforcement Center (JLEC). Official information and updates will be posted on this webpage. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) is working proactively with Douglas County Emergency Management, Douglas County staff, and elected officials to ensure the safety of Douglas County residents, visitors, and businesses. Water Street Closure
Traffic controls are being put into place. Concrete barriers will be installed to block motor vehicle traffic on Water Street to allow people to move safely and freely on foot in this area.
Beginning Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 8:00 a.m., Water Street will be closed to motor vehicle traffic through Monday, August 10, 2020. The time traffic will resume on Monday will be determined following the August 8 protest.
The red area shown on the map will be fenced, and neither foot traffic nor motor vehicle traffic will be permitted. This is a no access area. Individuals entering this area will be subject to trespassing laws.
Free Speech Zone Accommodations:
- Water Street will be closed to provide additional space for a designated free speech zone.
- Free space (as shown on the map) has been established to accommodate individuals attending the protest.
- An 8-foot buffer zone will be maintained from the two main doorways leading into the JLEC. This area will be clearly marked. The public will not be allowed past barricades into this area unless authorized by law enforcement personnel.

Douglas County Public Library
The Minden location of the Douglas County Public Library, located at 1625 Library Lane, will be closed on August 8. The safety of staff and patrons is the first priority. (The Lake Tahoe location is closed on Saturdays due to COVID-19 Phase 2 restrictions.)
