Minden, NV – The long-serving Douglas County Community Services Foundation announced its 2023-2024 board, electing Renea Louie as Board Chair; Bobbi Thompson Vice Chair; Brenda Robertson Vice Chair; Dave Brady Treasurer; Natalia Vander Laan Secretary; Doug Sonneman Director; Gary Dove Director; Scott Morgan Director; and Liz Baumgartner, Brian Fitzgerald, and Brook Adie renewed as stakeholders.
The Foundation’s mission has been connecting the passions of philanthropists with the needs of the community and senior centers countywide and to empower donors to focus on the joy of giving and positively affecting the lives of thousands of citizens. The mission to support the critical services and building needs by providing financial resources to develop programs that inspire healthy activities, support senior meals and activities, youth learning, creative exchange, athletic programs, and much more.
Through this commitment, the Foundation has become a vigorous community partner recognized for its significant contributions for many much-needed high profile projects including fully equipping the Valley Community and Senior Center gym equipment, flooring, building equipment, furniture, the Douglas County Emergency Generator, Grand Flagpole Project, entry marquis, and the brand-new rock-climbing wall. The Foundation has provided new fitness equipment at the Kahle Community Center and Gymnasium and recently remodeled and expanded the kitchen at the Topaz Ranch Estates Neighborhood Center.
Board Chair Renea Louie said, “We are absolutely thrilled to have such outstanding leaders in our community serve and play a pivotal role in the Foundation in supporting the community and senior centers. Their immense individual and collective connections across the community are key in the tremendous success of the Foundation’s purpose and goals and the impressive breadth of services the community and senior centers provide countywide.”
The Foundation also supports new programs including purchasing 500 pairs of skates for family roller skating night and all the equipment to support archery tag nights. One of the most impactful programs the foundation started in 2016 is the youth and teen scholarship program which has raised over $400,000 to provide gymnasium memberships to any Douglas County youth who desires a membership.
Director Scott Morgan and the Board are excited to announce the Foundation’s newest project to raise $200,000 to support an identified critical need for an emergency generator at the Kahle Community Center and the Topaz Ranch Estates Neighborhood Center. The addition of emergency generators to these facilities will allow them to be used as an emergency shelters during community emergencies and when those areas are experiencing power outages.

About the Douglas County Community and Senior Center and Foundation
The valley center opened December 6, 2014, in the heart of Gardnerville, and is just not a community center, but the center of the community. With offerings for seniors, adults, and youth all are welcomed and can find numerous activities and offerings at the center. Thousands of citizens use the centers each week. The Douglas County Community Services Foundation was formed in 2011 to support the community centers and senior centers in Douglas County, both Lake and Valley. The main emphasis is to support the construction and ongoing capital and equipment needs of the of the Carson Valley Community and Senior Center and Kahle Community Center. The Foundation is a non-profit 501(C)(3) corporation intended to make improvements to the community and senior center as easy and efficiently as possible with the maximum amount of accountability. The Foundation acts as a liaison between the government of Douglas County and private donors in order to maximize and meet the private donor's needs.
