Douglas County Welcomes Kathy Kaiser as Comptroller and Auditor

Douglas County, NV – Douglas County is excited to announce that Katherine (Kathy) Kaiser has accepted the position of County Comptroller and Auditor. Chief Operating Officer Kathy Lewis announced Kaiser's selection for the newly created position during the Board of County Commissioner's June 18, 2026, meeting.

"Kathy has earned the trust and respect of her colleagues through years of exceptional service and a deep understanding of county finance," Lewis said. "Her experience across multiple financial disciplines, combined with her commitment to accountability and continuous improvement, makes her the right person to lead Douglas County's financial operations. I am confident she will continue to strengthen the County's fiscal stewardship while helping us plan responsibly for the future."

Kaiser has served Douglas County for nearly 13 years, advancing through several key financial positions within the organization. Throughout her tenure, she has developed extensive experience in accounting, budgeting, grants administration, payroll, purchasing, treasury operations, financial reporting, annual audit coordination, property tax administration, investment management, and capital project accounting. Her new position reflects a proven record of leadership, fiscal stewardship, and a longstanding commitment to serving Douglas County and its residents.

As Comptroller and Auditor, Kaiser will oversee the County's accounting and financial reporting functions, annual financial audit, compliance activities, and strategic financial initiatives while supporting the County's long-term fiscal sustainability. She will also fulfill the statutory responsibilities of the County Auditor under Nevada law.

Kaiser holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration. She is committed to continuous professional development and is currently pursuing her Certified Public Finance Officer certification through the Government Finance Officers Association. She believes ongoing education is essential to effective leadership and responsible stewardship of public resources, while fostering strong teams through collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to serve Douglas County in this new role," Kaiser said. "Throughout my career with the County, I've been fortunate to work alongside talented employees who are dedicated to serving our community. I look forward to building on that foundation by ensuring sound financial management, maintaining transparency, and supporting informed decision-making that benefits our residents today and in the years ahead."

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Kaiser enjoys spending time with family and friends, participating in CrossFit, and exploring the outdoors through photography.

Funding for the Comptroller and Auditor position is included in the Fiscal Year 2026–27 budget. The position was created as part of a Finance Department reorganization approved by the Board of County Commissioners in May. Under Nevada law, the Comptroller serves as the County's chief fiscal officer and performs the statutory duties of the County Auditor.
