Vacation Home Rental Code Up for Review

Minden, NV – Douglas County will be presenting revisions to the Vacation Home Rental (VHR) code. On February 22, 2023, the Vacation Home Rental Advisory Board voted unanimously to approve revisions to the VHR code. The revisions include changes to density, occupancy, and tier levels. The next step in the process is for the Planning Commission to review the revisions on March 14, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the Historic Courthouse, located at 1616 8th St. in Minden.

At the Planning Commission Meeting, Vacation Home Rental Program Manager Ernie Strehlow will give a presentation on the proposed changes to the Planning Commission. The public can obtain a copy of the redlines at the VHR website: https://www.douglascountynv.gov/cms/One.aspx?portalId=12493103&pageId=14438390

Once the Planning Commission views the proposed changes, Strehlow will present the revisions to the County Board of Commissioners in early April in Stateline (location, date, and time to be announced). Depending on this outcome, a first and second reading of the proposed revisions will occur in early May and June.

The code review and update began in 2022 and took more than 50 hours of advisory board and staff discussion in combination with 25 hours of public comment. In October 2022, a joint meeting with the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and the Vacation Home Rental Advisory Board was held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe in Stateline.
