Double Spring Fire and Ruby Fire Updates

Double Spring Fire and Ruby Fire Updates
Posted on 08/09/2026

On August 8, 2026, East Fork Fire responded to two separate fires in Douglas County. One is the Double Spring Fire just south of Leviathan Mine Road off U.S. 395 and north of Hwy 208. The other is the Ruby Fire off Pinenut 2 Road. Both fires were a result of lightning in the area.

Currently, all lanes of U.S. 395 are open.

The Double Spring Fire is approximately 100 acres with good containment and good progress. No structures have been lost, no evacuations in effect for either fire, and no injuries have been reported.

The Ruby Fire is approximately 200 acres and is in a remote area, accessible by Type 6 brush trucks and UTVs. There is one helicopter assigned to that fire. East Fork is in unified command with the National Wildland Fire Service. There are approximately 100 personnel working the two fires and more resources on the way.

We would like to thank our partnering agencies, including both California and Nevada resources, the Washoe Tribe, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and Douglas County Emergency Management.

We are monitoring the weather today as there is the potential for high winds, high temperatures, and low humidity.
